The California Secretary of State registration-status page sends a voter to My Voter Status. Use it to check your own registration rather than to browse Perris voter rolls. The state says the returned view can confirm registration status, the name under which the voter is registered, the county of registration, and political party. That distinction matters: a self-service status check is available online, but detailed voter information follows a separate application and approval process.

Open the My Voter Status lookup and follow the prompts displayed in the live form. The research did not capture the form's exact labels, required markers, or match rules, so guessed field names would be misleading. If the record is missing or seems wrong, the Riverside County Registrar of Voters is the local point of contact. It administers county elections and can address a Perris registration issue that the statewide status screen does not resolve.

Perris Voter Records Have Limits
California voter records are not a public people directory. Elections Code sections 2188 and 2194 limit access to approved purposes and set boundaries around the data released. Eligible applicants include candidates for federal, state, or local office; certain committees supporting or opposing a qualifying measure; people with election, scholarly, journalistic, or political purposes; and people whose governmental purpose the Secretary of State accepts.
This purpose rule applies whether an applicant seeks statewide data, a Riverside County file, or records for a small number of named voters. It prevents a Perris voter roll from becoming an open name-and-address list. Commercial, advertising, marketing, and harassment uses are prohibited. A requester must describe the proposed use and support it with the required documents instead of merely asserting curiosity.

Perris Voter Records Through Riverside
Perris sits within Riverside County, so local election administration belongs to the Riverside County Registrar of Voters, not the Perris City Clerk. The county voter-contact number published by the state is (951) 486-7200. Contact the Registrar when a status check needs local review, when same-day registration must be completed in person, or when an approved requester needs a county-specific voter file.
California also allows an application to go to the Secretary of State or to a specific county. The best route depends on scope. A request limited to Riverside County can go through the Registrar, while a multi-county or statewide request belongs with the state. County-specific fees vary, so an applicant should confirm the current amount and delivery method before submitting materials.
Less than 15 days before an election, same-day voter registration must be completed in person at a county elections office or polling location. That service changes a registration record; it is not a way to inspect other Perris voters.

What Perris Voter Records Contain
An approved California file can contain voter registration data, participation history, and political-district data. The contents depend on the request and approval. An active-status file may omit inactive voters unless they are specifically requested. Some fields are useful for election research, but their presence never makes the file available for unrestricted use.

Other possible fields listed in the application and regulations include date of birth, gender, place of birth, party, registration method and reason, permanent vote-by-mail status, county voter ID, and participation history. Release still depends on the request type and the legal purpose. The file is an election record with controls, not a general Perris address book.
Confidential Perris Voter Registration Data
California draws a firm line around sensitive identifiers. Elections Code section 2194(b) excludes a driver's license number, California identification-card number, the last four digits of a Social Security number, a unique identifier, and a signature or digitized signature image. Pre-registration records for 16- and 17-year-olds are also excluded because those minors are not registered voters until age 18.
Confidential voter records protected under Elections Code sections 2166, 2166.5, 2166.7, and 2166.8 are not provided in ordinary voter-file releases. Section 2166.9 creates a narrow route for confidential contact information involving protected elected officials and candidates, limited to bona fide journalistic or governmental purposes as determined by the Secretary of State.
Confidential by California law. Identification numbers, Social Security number digits, signatures, minor pre-registration records, and protected-voter information do not belong in an ordinary approved file.
Perris Voting History Is Limited
A participation-history file can show that a person took part in an election, the election date and type, and the method used. Examples include a polling place, conditional registration, or vote by mail. It does not reveal which candidate, measure, or position the voter selected. Ballot secrecy remains intact.
This distinction prevents a common mistake in family, scholarly, and journalistic research. A participation row supports a statement about participation only. It cannot support any claim about political views or a ballot choice. District data likewise describes the precinct and district structure, not how an individual voted.
Request California Voter Files
The Secretary of State voter-file request page supplies the rules and links to the application. A request may cover all California voters, a single county such as Riverside, a district, or up to 10 specified voters. The form asks for the requester's identity, organization and contact details, request type, statutory purpose, proposed use, geography, requested data, and supporting documents.
- Download the California voter registration file request application and select statewide, county, district, or specific-voter scope.
- State the qualifying purpose, describe how the data will be used, attach identification and supporting proof, and complete specific-voter details when applicable.
- Sign the original and mail or hand-deliver it. Email and fax submissions are not accepted. Include the correct fee for the request type.
- Allow the stated 7 to 14 business days for review and keep approved data secure after delivery.
The statewide file application fee is $100. Specific voter records cost $30 each, up to $100, with no more than 10 records per application. Application materials also describe statewide, county, or district data at $15 per 1,000 records up to $100, so applicants should reconcile the fee category before ordering. Riverside County sets its own county-file fees.
Statewide, county, and district requests may arrive on an encrypted DVD as tab-delimited registration, participation-history, and district files. Specific records may arrive through encrypted zipped email. Encryption does not end the recipient's duty to control access and use the information only as approved.
Safe at Home Perris Voters
California Safe at Home provides a substitute mailing address for qualified participants and government-agency use. The program serves people facing serious safety threats and certain household members. Certification lasts four years, and protection is prospective. It does not erase every older public record that may already exist.
A participant should not use the ordinary online voter registration form. California directs enrolled participants to confidential registration procedures. The state online registration process otherwise uses a California driver license or ID number, the last four Social Security number digits, and date of birth, with DMV used to retrieve a signature. Those intake details are not the same as fields released to an approved voter-file requester.
Note: Safe at Home affects the registration route and address disclosure, while older records may still require separate safety and privacy steps.
Historical Perris Voter Registers
Current My Voter Status and voter-file requests are poor tools for tracing an ancestor. Historical work belongs with Great Registers, older registration registers, county holdings, and newspaper notices. The California State Archives county and city collections may hold original or microfilmed records from local governments, including Great Registers. Many holdings lack a name index, so researchers may need a county, date range, or precinct before asking for help.
For Perris, search under Riverside County and remember the area's shifting record geography. Riverside County was created in 1893, while Perris began as a rail settlement in the 1880s and incorporated in 1911. A very early resident may appear in older San Diego County-era material or in local newspaper polling-place notices. FamilySearch and county offices can help bridge gaps, but a historical register does not establish a person's present registration or address.
Perris Voter Record Misuse
Approved access comes with limits. California bars commercial, advertising, marketing, and harassment uses of voter data. Elections Code section 18109 provides penalties for misuse, which can include a misdemeanor. The application also places security duties on recipients, so sharing the file beyond the approved purpose can create a legal problem even when the first request was valid.
